Health and Nutrition Specialist

Statement of the Job: The Health & Nutrition Specialist ensures that the program adheres to the Head Start Performance Standards, and state and local requirements regarding health and nutrition services. The Health & Nutrition Specialist works with staff to coordinate health and nutrition services for families of children prenatal to age of five. The Health & Nutrition Specialist also provides technical assistance to program staff as needed. The Health and & Nutrition Specialist is also responsible for providing health and nutrition trainings for the Early Head Start and Head Start staff and parents by applying professional expertise through ongoing monitoring, mentoring, coaching, guidance and feedback  This position provides consultation, training and oversight to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing and other applicable regulations. The Health & Nutrition Specialist works in cooperation with all other disciplines (Education, Mental Health and Disabilities, Family Support, Parent Involvement, and Administration) in order to provide coordination of health and nutrition and safety services, training and compliance monitoring. The Health & Nutrition Specialist is responsible for the daily management of the services in these component areas and for the assurance of compliance and quality of services being delivered to children and families.

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • Professional expertise, including a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, in a relevant discipline, combined with at least 2 years of professional experience in the Health Services field, preferably in a social service environment.
  • Certification to conduct hearing/vision screenings
  • Knowledge of health related services to the community
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards is strongly desired
  • Knowledge of local and state licensing regulations
  • Ability to handle duties in a self-directed manner
  • Ability and willingness to work in a program in a high-risk, low income community
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications and the ability to learn and master other computer technology/software programs as needed
  • Must be able to remain abreast of developments in the health and nutrition fields to enhance professional growth and development
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines essential 

 

Head Start Full-time/Part Year Lead Teacher

Statement of the Job: The Lead Teacher is responsible for the planning, implementation and coordination of the comprehensive education program. The Lead Teacher ensures that the education program is developmentally appropriate and meets the individual needs of the children as mandated by Head Start, state and local standards.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field with a minimum of 18 credit hours preferred.
  • 1-3 years teaching in a preschool environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of Kansas licensing and Head Start Performance Standards a plus.

 

Head Start Full-time/Full Year Lead Teacher

Statement of the Job: The Lead Teacher is responsible for the planning, implementation and coordination of the comprehensive education program. Head Start Substitute Teacher

Statement of the Job: To provide coverage and support in the classroom as needed due to absence of regular full/part time employees.

Required Qualifications: Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field with a minimum of 18 credits in Early Childhood or Child Development and one year’s experience is required.


 

Office/Kitchen Substitute

Statement of the Job: The Office/Kitchen Substitute will provide coverage and support at the front desk or in the kitchen as needed due to absence of regular full/part time employees.

Required Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent and experience in a responsible position is required.
